Gardaí are warning the public of the dangers of online fraud following a series of incidents across the county where unsuspecting individuals were scammed out of more than €16,000. Gardaí are currently investigating four cyber scams which took place in the county in October. One of the victims was duped into thinking that WhatsApp messages he received were from his daughter. After receiving a series of suspicious texts, the man subsequently contacted the fraud department of his bank to be informed that €7,500 was taken from his account. However, when the woman went to her local bank, she discovered two transactions of €4,500 had been made to various persons.
